I am trying the Obsidian app for the first time. Feeling overwhelmed 😳
@Munish that’s what I’ve been using. I have kept to the basics of folders and notes. For me, personally, it’s less overwhelming than notion. With all of these platforms I remind myself that I don’t have to use all of the functionality. They’re v. complex.
@jasraj that is so true. What are your recommendations, any plugins or templates you suggest?
@Munish not as yet. Very basic setup here. I’m open to recommendations though if you discover any… enjoy your exploration!
@Munish I like it a lot and have used it for several years now, but I keep mine very simple. I use it to make and organize simple digital notes, like contact information and notes for people and organizations related to work. I draft most of my micro.blog posts on it, since m.b also uses markdown. It syncs with my phone, which is helpful.
No plug-ins, I use just the core features. I tried a few plug-ins, but they get out-dated or are not maintained, so a couple of years ago I made a “no plug-ins with Obsidian” rule and have been happy with it ever since.
I did create a few templates for myself – some checklists, a time and date stamp, and a work-related daily log template (because all too often I felt like I was busy all day, but… what did I actually do??). The work log is also helpful for me when dealing with stuff like tracking mileage and meetings, and jotting down ideas and project notes.
I also love the ease of linking notes, and that you can use tags and folders to organize things somewhat. @jasraj
@annahavron thanks for your detailed insight. I think I may go the same route, bar the Worflowy plugin. Which allows me have nested lists. @jasraj
@Munish been a user of obsidian since day 1 thousands of notes in there .. including one archive that is my archive site that sits on blot .. love it .. but somehow craft and drafts is where my work is done.
@Munish …must ….not ….rethink ….“no plugins” policy 😸 seriously, that Workflowy plugin sounds cool
@annahavron this is my problem too. I need to see how I get on and if I tinker too much, it’s back to iA writer
@Munish maybe - but you got to consider the starting plate - in total we are prolly still in the ‘singular’.
@Munish Best of luck. I’ve been using Obsidian for a while now and I’m really liking it. I would suggest not to get to wrapped up in deciding on systems or plugins just yet. Start simple and let a system evolve based on what works best for you.
