margin-trim looks nice. Beautiful typography in CSS still feels like a mystical art to me, where the controls keep getting more and more complex and layered. I guess it’s necessary, maybe.

@jsonbecker That’s neat. Will solve a lot of issues people have otherwise solved with first , last, and negative margins. But you’re right, adding layers upon layers of stuff is going to create some unfortunate messes as well.

@Mtt it’s impossible to do now, but I have the distinct sense that CSS would benefit from a ground up redesign/reconsideration to simplify. I think a lot of things overlap in strange ways because the system can mostly really only be additive, but I think we know more now.

@jsonbecker I agree on all of that. There would need to be a new standard introduced (and agreed upon by everyone), sites explicitly state which standard, and browsers support both standards. It won’t happen, but we can always dream.
