Anyone out there using YouTube.tv? Thoughts on it?
@Mtt I replaced DirecTV Now with YouTubeTV about three weeks ago. I like it quite a bit. The streaming video is very smooth and very fast. The unlimited DVR is very nice.
@chris How does commercial skipping with DVR work? Is it like a traditional fast forward or does it have a skip button or?
@Mtt No skip unfortunately. There’s a slider to move around and 15 second front and back buttons.
@chris Thanks. I read somewhere that on some DVRed shows, you actually get the on demand (must watch commercials) version. Is that the case?
I’m using the Channels app with a HDHomeRun now. It has its issues, but handles commercials amazingly well.
@Mtt I tried it a year to a year and a half ago. One of the biggest issues for me at the time was when I set a show to record it recorded from every available channel including non-English ones. I don’t know if it’s changed since but for me I need to be able to set DVR options: only new ones, on a specific channel, etc.
@Mtt From what I can tell, none of the streaming services handle commercials well. The only shows I’ve recorded where they’ve required me to watch the commercials are CW superhero shows.
@chris Channels app with SiliconDusts streaming plan allows for easy commercial skipping of everything DVRed.
@Mtt I am currently trying out YouTube TV, had previously used Playstation Vue. I have decided to go back to Vue because You tube is missing a few channels I watch occasionally and I also like the Vue ui better. YouTube TV is worth a try though.
@Mtt Cool. Do you know if they stream your locals? An antenna is, unfortunately, not an option.
@klandwehr Thanks!
@EddieHinkle That’s definitely weird. I think I’ve decided to stay with Channels and HDHomeRun. For the time being at least.
