I have a watch (Seiko SSK003) with a scratched crystal. Anyone know of a good place to have the crystal replaced (possibly upgraded)?

@Mtt I don’t yet know of a place but I will need to eventually get my own (7S36) switched out someday for the same reason. According to this article, good crystals for the 5 series watches are east to find and often fit multiple models.

> The crystal diameter remains the same at 31.5mm for both SKX007 and SSK series. Now you can freely swap to sapphire crystals if you see the need for it.

@gregmoore Yeah, the best I can find is DIY solutions. And they aren’t too expensive. I just don’t know if I want to risk doing it myself.

@Mtt Same. On one hand, I really like the idea of amassing the equipment and knowledge to DIY this kind of thing. On the other hand, I can definitely imagine me doing something wrong and finding a bunch of water inside my watch.

@gregmoore I actually have a lot (all?) req’d tools from an inexpensive all-in-one kit I bought ages ago when I needed to size a band & change a battery. I THINK I could do it, but I’m scared. I know there’d be a tiny dust spec I’d miss & it’d drive me crazy or I’d off center the cyclops.

@Mtt I’ve only seen people replace flexible, plastic “crystals” but I know I would need a small press before attempting it myself. I only have cheap battery/strap changing tools.
