I’ve updated Tiny Theme for Micro.blog with a few quick changes & bug fixes. Improved blockquotes, fixed horizontal scroll bug, added accessibility improvements, improved link styling, added pagination to category pages, & fixed alt text for logo. You can upgrade to 1.0.5 on the plugins page.

@Mtt How much time did you spend developing your MB theme?

@numericcitizen Tricky question to answer. I've developed themes here before for personal use, so I had a good understanding of how to do it before starting. Not counting that time spent learning, I probably spent 12-15 hours across a few days making it. I also have some boilerplate stuff I use across different projects that I was able to use to save some time.

@Mtt I wish I had a personal theme for my blog instead of MB default one. I feel that the tech behind this is not easy (JavaScript for example) to master. I wish I could find some help here. Might be willing to pay some money. But first I need to design the visual that I would like. It would serve has the start of a statement of work I guess.

@numericcitizen My suggestion to learn is use one of the basic themes (such as the default one or Marfa or even Tiny) and start small. Tweak the color and font-size. Move the date to the bottom of a post. Center the header. Stuff like that. You can manipulate these themes into almost anything you want using only CSS and very minor custom theme edits. When you nail that, you can go full custom if you still have the need.

@Mtt If you have a font file online, can you define it all in CSS, or do you need access to the header? If the last is true, I wish the header could be edited like the footer in the Design section.

@numericcitizen Boosting what @Mtt said, taking your existing theme and making small modifications is a fantastic way to learn. With some up-front effort, you can even do it on your local machine and see your changes instantly on save. I attempted to document that initial setup because it isn't easy or intuitive if you never do this kind of stuff.

@odd If I’m understanding your question correctly, you can accomplish it using only CSS.

But I’d you need to modify the head, you can do that creating a custom theme that sits on top of Tiny (or any other theme) with only the one required file. You can do that all within Micro.blog.

@Mtt Thank you! I’ll have a look into that. 😃

@Mtt Thanks. I think I will manage, but good to know there’s someone I can ask. I’ve been checking the licenses for some fonts, but it looks like they don’t cover web usage. I’ll have to wait until Tuesday, when I have spare money for a new font.

@Mtt well, maybe I don't have the time to learn? 😅

@gregmoore Well, yeah, I could do that, but I'm not sure that I want to invest the efforts.... I could create a video about that, though, after learning the process... cc @Mtt

@numericcitizen That’s a totally reasonable and common response. Not everyone should have to become a mini developer to make their site look how they want but that’s where static site generators are currently stuck. (There’s a reason premade themes are mostly minimalist blogs.) I made my own custom theme because I wanted to learn something new.

@canion @Miraz @Mtt I moved @stickerspotter to Tiny as well, and might even move my own blog to it. I will have to find the time to edit the color scheme, and hopefully nothing will break, but I really look how clean it looks. Not sure I’m ready to give up on Atkinson Hyperlegible though…

@Mtt Thanks. I’ll message if I get stuck. My issue right now is finding the time to deal with it, with no interruptions 😅
