@mmetcalfe
Of course taking £200 away from people was going to be unpopular, whether or not those people actually needed it.
Apparently approximately 9 million people lost the payment.
Probably the vast majority did not need it, but were angry to lose it.
Personally, I don't have a huge income but I didn't need it or miss it.
The freezing of tax thresholds removed more than that, by taking more tax from those on a lower income, including Pensioners, but that seems to be ignored.
@mmetcalfe I thought of you when I saw the UK was following the America model (I saw the movie, I know that little Nigel fucker) while thankfully Canada and Australia are following the Fuck America model. I have always felt confident that Brexit breathed life into the UK’s own dual reality via social media. What really makes me curious is whether some kind of dual reality value might be calculated and plotted against social media permeation.
@Moondeer Hrm. Social media infestation is some of the problem - it acts like a bellows on the flames of anger and outrage. But all political parties have been reluctant to tackle the rising inequality, and have instead blamed immigrants (or scroungers) where it has suited them. However wrong the argument “pensioners went without their winter fuel payments to pay for asylum seekers in migrant hotels” is, it is one that politicians are happy to allow stick.
