“On “alpha” men, sexual contagion, and poorly disguised misogyny – Going Medieval”

An added dimension is that this discussion started with a picture of Hafþór Júlíus who has both been accused of spousal violence in the past and confessed to steroid use.

@baldur These guys are nuts. He's clearly only "leaning in" because he's too tall to get his arm around her shoulder any other way.

@MitchWagner Oh, yeah. Absolutely. They're so completely detached from reality that just thinking about the basic logistics of the picture is well beyond them.

@baldur I'm reminded of a panel I attended at a science fiction convention. Writers were making jokes about actual bad prose they'd read in published novels.

One of the writers on the panel picked on a phrase from one action-adventure novel, which described a character as, "... he was a tall man, and like all tall men, he NEVER BOWED HIS HEAD."

The writer laughed and said, "I am a tall man. I am 6'4". And I bow my head ALL THE TIME. If I do not bow my head I am always banging it on doorframes, chandeliers, etc."

For the benefit of non-US readers here: 6'4"=a hair less than 2 meters. Very tall!
