AI is going to make it a lot harder for journalists, as CNET and other publishers turn to machines to generate copy. mitchw.blog

@MitchW I don't necessarily agree. First of all, it's really early and people are using this like it's mature tech. It's not. Secondly, if you are writing formulaic stuff, sure, you have something to worry about, but if you are writing multi source analytical pieces I don't think you're going to be replaced by a bot anytime soon.

@ron_miller Yes, still early days of text-based AI but the writing is on the wall. And yes there will continue to be demand for well-written, multi-source analytics pieces.

However, journalism has been a game of musical chairs for all the time I've been doing it. They keep taking away chairs. AI is going to take away a lot more of those chairs. It will do it before we retire.

And the remaining chairs are getting smaller and more uncomfortable.

@MitchW I don't know. I choose to be positive. I think AI in general is in service of humans, and not a replacement for us.

@ron_miller It's the choice of society whether AI is a tool for the people or the oligarchs.

@MitchW In the end any technology can be used for good or ill, and people will find ways to do both.

@ron_miller @MitchW I'm not too worried about it yet, but there certainly are fewer chairs in journalism musical chairs, and this won't help any. I'm sure I'll do OK,. others, especially beginners, it's going to be hard.
