Busloads of migrants dropped off at vice president’s DC home on Christmas Eve

The Bible literally says not to do shit like this. Matthew 25:31 and following.

@MitchW How many American Christians understand the Parable of the Good Samaritan? (Hint: the Samaritans were a despised neighboring country to the Jews.)

@nitpicking Rereading it, I may not entirely understand it myself. The bits about charity being important--that's clear-cut. But why a Samaritan?

Rhetorical question. Google is a thing.

@MitchW The Samaritans (people of Samaria) were (are) Hebrews whose ancestors were not kidnapped by the Assyrians and enslaved in Babylon. The Jews (descendants of the freed slaves) were pro-Persian (Cyrus the Great freed them) and thought of the Samaritans as traitorous collaborators with the Assyrians who got special privileges. The Samaritans thought of the Jews as imposters who weren't practicing the *real* Hebrew customs, and were too Persian in culture. (continued)

@MitchW Note that the current "Hebrew" alphabet of the Jews is a Persian script. The Samaritans use the original Hebrew alphabet, which is closer to the Phoenician abjad. They also have a different Torah, though very similar to the one Jews inherit. The two groups have hated each other for many centuries. (Like I say, the rivalry goes back to Cyrus.) Jesus, recall, was a Jew preaching to Jews. It was essentially "The Parable of the Good Nazi" in its time.
