@MitchWagner Usually there a few in the list, ones I know I want to read. Most times I start reading one, if I can’t sleep that’s the one. Otherwise I’ll pick another the following day, and do the same. The one that keeps me awake the longest is the one I’ll read next.

@maique Good system! How do books get on the list though?

@MitchWagner Either it’s an author I’ve read before and still have others to read, but a lot come from noticing them online, here, on Twitter, Mastodon, or recommended by someone. Rarely I look for books on a subject, but mostly they just show up unannounced.

@maique I’m trying to read more various authors — women, PoC, LGBTQ. I haven’t been entirely successful. My favorite writers still tend to be cis white dudes.

@MitchWagner I remember seeing a few lists a couple of weeks ago on those exact subjects. Not even sure if it was here, or on another social network, but many were looking to broaden their author lists as well, and others were sharing their recommendations.

@MitchWagner I find books through a variety of means. Sometimes, a book is mentioned in an an article or book I’m reading. At times, I see books that others have finished or are reading on GoodReads. I add everything to Want-to-Read shelf on GoodReads and then pick when I want to start a new one.

@pratik I have enough favorite authors that it’s easy — too easy — to stay with them. And I use Amazon wishlists rather than the goodreads want to read list.

@dominikhoecht I rarely listen to audiobooks. My mind wanders. Not a problem with podcasts.

@MitchWagner I made a conscious effort last year to go beyond my favorite authors/genres. Sought out books that people I respected read. Discovered a whole new world out there.
