Through a window on a dreary morning, but although I often hear the pheasant, today I actually saw it. 🐦

Pheasant on a railing with grass behind.

@AlexWolfe Thank you. Not the best photo, but at least I saw the bird. Haven’t actually seen it for weeks now.

@Miraz Good catch. Seeing that pheasant reminds me of when I use to feed a couple of them while living in South Wales. One even creeped into the house through an open door…and then real what it had done.

@crossingthethreshold LOL This morning an adult pukeko was eying me through the closed glass door. Wouldn’t surprise me if it were to come inside sometime in summer. Reminds me of this likeable TV ad from more than a decade ago: www.youtube.com/watch

@Miraz For all the distinctive colors on the male they blend into the landscape very well. I had been hearing one on our place for several months before laying eyes on it. And then only because it was flying.

@palousegeo Same. I’ve been hearing the buck buck a bit at various times. We also have longer grass nearby that it can disappear into.

@crossingthethreshold Baby pukeko are hilarious: little fluff balls with giant feet.
