So, it turns out our fancy new dimmer switches have firmware updates and an app.

@Miraz I sometimes wonder if a time will come when we will have our own apps and updates! 😅

@crossingthethreshold Well actually, now you mention it, perhaps we should have regular updates. “Installing improved recognition of racist ideas and ways to counteract them…” 😆

@Miraz 😂 That and a multitude of other sins. Someone or something, somewhere would be working overtime to keep up 🙄

@Miraz The improved recognition and ways to counteract racism idea is great, but I’m not sure who I’d be comfortable offering up write access to when it comes to my brain. Ha!

What do you think about the app and firmware updates? Our new stove/oven has an app that has the ability to turn on the oven light remotely. It doesn’t have a way to see what’s actually happening in the oven remotely but I guess someone else could?! Maybe I could prank someone in my kitchen in the dumbest way possible?

If I think about everything I own as being a “project” to manage, I want them all to be as simple as possible.

@kimberlykg Yes, the write access would be a problem. 😀 I was thinking more of a social thing where we’re brought up to every so often reconsider our approach to life — racism was just one example of the kinds of things we could consider. As for the dimmer switches having an app — I was surprised and a bit cautious. Like you, I suspect it’s really just one more thing to go wrong. Apparently I can set up automations for the dimmers. I haven’t explored that yet. I’m excited by the tech but also a bit sceptical. Years ago I bought Philips Hue lights but really all we needed was an on/off switch. 😆
