@Cheri You piqued my interest, but sadly the book I wanted to look at isn't available for Kindle in NZ. 😒 I'm rereading the Kristine Kathryn Rusch Retrieval Artist series. She's so good!

@Cheri My response to there being no Kindle edition for NZ is: What!? That's ridiculous! How stupid! Well, FU! I'm unlikely to follow up later to see if it's available yet. And my feelings of anger, hurt and resentment are directed at the author, whose name is prominent on the page and associated with the book, and not with the (invisible) publisher where it probably belongs.
