Our community Facebook group is OK, useful; the moderators great. A member, whose avatar shows a middle-aged white guy, posted an appalling anti-woman ‘joke’ about his wife not doing chores so he’d chain her to the gate for someone to take away. I challenged. He hit back. Yuk! 🤬

@Miraz ugh, even the good bits of Facebook are two steps away from bad… The same has happened in so many groups I followed over the years. There is still one group I visit Facebook for every few weeks and I don’t want this to happen there ever

@Miraz Sorry it was yucky but good for you for challenging. These micro-agressions are just the beginning. Stop ’em in their tracks whenever we can.

@ridwan Oh, I was referring to our local community where I live, not to Micro.Blog!

@agilelisa I was pretty shocked — I don’t move in circles where such ‘jokes’ ever come up. In fact my partner and one closest friend are psychotherapists who often deal with issues around partner violence and my other closest friend is a retired Professor of Criminology whose main topic is violence against women. You’ll get that we’re a pretty feminist group with a lot of understanding about women and violence. 😀
