Cannabis will remain illegal in Aotearoa New Zealand. That means that instead of state control on quality and distribution, it will remain in the control of gangs and other criminals who will take profits without regard to the humans affected.

@JeremyWxBaker Yes, there’s still scope for that one to change. It’s not binding though, so if it remains close I expect no change.

@Miraz I’m glad the End of Life one succeeded, but disappointing about cannabis. Hopefully the supporters will continue to educate the population, and try again later. Legalizing is all upside, no downside, as states like Oregon have shown.

@dejus I hope so. And as our Parliament shifts to younger and more diverse membership (perhaps reflecting a more forward-thinking approach from the population at large) I think things will shift eventually.
