Question to US sports and/or Star Trek fans.
A crossword clue and answer was: “College player sitting out a year: Redshirt”.
On Star Trek redshirts on away missions generally got killed or whatever.
Are these two things related? 🤔🖖🏼
@Miraz Ha! Redshirts are athletes who get an extra year of eligibility by sitting out a season, a sign that the team values them and wants to keep them longer, compared to our poor Trek characters. The term first appeared in 1955, according to Webster’s.
