@writingslowly Interesting! I've never heard of Zettelkästen, before, but, since I speak German, I recognized the term was referring to some sort of small piece of paper, and as someone who designs stationery products, my ears perked up.
In fact, I am working right now on a personal organizer project that was inspired by an index card system, but I am adapting it as a lightweight adjunct to a Filofax ring-bound organizer.
@gcvsa I wonder if Filofax-style organizers will be making a come-back as younger generations approciate retro stuff that’s not digital.
@writingslowly Great conversation. I cycle through formats. I AM NOT a formal researcher/writer based on “facts”. I mostly write to reflect back what I’m thinking … ephemeral. I wander in and out of “Pile of Index Cards” (PoIC), cheap student notebooks, and Moleskines. The non-ephemeral ends up on digital somewhere.
@Marty thanks – you have reminded me of the prehistory of the ‘pile of index cards’ and the mid-century Japanese obsession with note-making. I’m inspired to write something about this.
