My Orbea Katu-E and its trailer is off on a little holiday with @otfrom to help him shift some compost. He arrived on his Brompton to pick it up, and is heading back home with folding bike in the trailer; big ‘ship-shipping ship, shipping shipping ships’ energy. Yo, dawg…

If you’d like to hear what @otfrom makes of the bike, read his initial thoughts here: functional.cafe/@otfrom/112558

Looking forward to hearing how the compost acquisition goes!

@otfrom Rightt?? ‘Fun’ is always the thing I stress with ebikes. You just grin. It’s like what riding a bike felt like as a kid.

(Boo, shoe!)

It’s a while since I pushed the range. I have done Tentsmuir and back in a charge, but iirc I was occasionally dropping the assist. Can always pack the charger and top up in a café. The cycle to Arbroath has some lovely stretches; done that a few times.

@otfrom 100% this. It becomes the default option for me, because it's easier, more direct, faster and more fun than most other option. Literally all four things; not exaggerating.

And yes, there's something pretty interesting about that 25km/h cut-off for the power; I remember wanting more when I first got the bike, but actually if you get your mind into ‘this is just the speed we cycle at' mindset it's pretty chilled. Like, you can go faster if you want, but there's something a little zen…

@EbikeNuggs there definitely is a point when going faster removes the satisfaction of biking and becomes a competition for speed. You notice less. You get caught in an anxiety trap.

You also need to relearn certain things about ebike riding.
