Big resolution for the next year is more weeknight hosting of friends for dinner. You know what I realized will make it possible? Telling folks (in a funny diplomatic way) that we need to be done by 9. My husband wakes at 5; we tag team various tasks around 2 ft jobs/3 kids/1 dog, etc. Will report.

@ablerism I would enjoy hearing how this works out. I think late nights are one of things that hold us back from hosting midweek.

@mwerickson I suspect that most people will be relieved by the time box too, don’t you? I would be glad, as guest, to be able to plan for that.

@ablerism @mwerickson This is a great idea. Otherwise you might be dealing with the stress of wanting to go but not wanting to come up with a reason to leave early, if you had to assume your hosts wouldn't find your actual reason acceptable... but then maybe they do... but how do you say it... argh!

So yes. A great idea.

@ablerism We wake at 5:30, so ask people to leave by 9:30pm. I had a shortcut where my white noise app started automatically playing from my phone at 9:30pm, haha. I would tell people, “Well, that means it’s my bed time, we’ve really enjoyed having you over.” After a few months, people started saying, “There’s Kyle’s white noise, it’s time to leave!”

@KyleEssary That is pitch-perfect. I knew I couldn’t be the only one! Thanks.
