A question of definition.

I am currently playing ‘Monument 2’. The last game I played was ‘Monument’. Before that … no idea.

Am I a gamer?

@JohnPhilpin I think it's a self-identification. Some people are gamers. Some people are people who play games.

@kimberlyhirsh I’m asking because I watched a pitch yesterday by someone who dropped the idea that there are more than 2 billion gamers in the world - which struck me as an incredibly high number ... so I wandered over to the interwebs and discovered this which supports that claim ... hence wondering if people like me are included.

@JohnPhilpin It can be a rather vexed term in some circles. There's a pool of people who consider themselves to the the "real" gamers.

I would imagine, though, to hit that level of figure they must be including casual gamers like yourself in that. The Switch has sold circa 55m units and the most recent figure I can find for the PS4 was over 100m. They must be factoring in casual phone game players.

@JohnPhilpin Ah, yes. In counts like those, people who game only on mobile or might otherwise be referred to as "casual gamers" are counted as gamers.

@kimberlyhirsh funny it’s like I play the guitar ... but never describe myself as a guitarist.
