🔖 Read ‘Y’all,’ that most Southern of Southernisms, is going mainstream – and it’s about time by David B. Parker (The Conversation), h/t @benwerd.

As my Latin teacher said when teaching us the 2nd person plural, “y’all” is a legitimate contraction.

@KimberlyHirsh I use y’all all the time, even though I’m not even American, let alone Southern, because it’s a marvellous casual gender-neutral plural to use in places of ‘you guys’.

@heroicendeavour Right? Whenever my kid's teacher struggles with second person plural I say "Just use y'all!" but because she's not Southern she claims it won't sound right. I don't have a Southern accent but I still use it.
