I just did a search on Google Scholar for the exact phrases “serious leisure” and “pedagogy of play” together and only found one result. I’m going to put on my thinking cap now. It’s very pretty. (It’s invisible.)
@kimberlyhirsh That’s surprising! I remember finding hits for serious leisure back when I was experimenting with a project on “professional amateurs” way back pre-google scholar.
@alans Right? I think it's probably because serious leisure is usually used to describe adults and pedagogy of play tends to be mentioned in early childhood literature, but they seem like two great tastes that would taste great together.
@kimberlyhirsh Yeah, I would really think that, at minimum they would share space in lit reviews as contributing to some common threads of thought. And in the stronger version, that pedagogy work would be a rich mine of things for exploring/experimenting around how adults learn their leisure.
