@kimberlyhirsh Hi! Have you looked into academic editing companies? They cover a wide range of subject areas, typically operate on both freelance and contract bases so its pretty flexible work, and seem to meet your criteria here. If nothing else, it might be a good stopgap while you're looking for something perfect. There's American Journal Experts (which is in Durham actually), Enago, and I'm a contract editor for a company out of Mumbai called Cactusglobal. I'm actually an engineer who's always been a decent writer, so I quit the design office job and I like this work better. Just an idea...good luck!
