Here are some things I’m not interested in:

  • content marketing
  • lead magnets
  • analytics
  • clickthrough
  • SEO
  • branded partnerships
  • the hustle

Here are some things I am interested in:

  • stories
  • love

@kimberlyhirsh I would argue that the former are simply tools used by those earnestly seeking the latter.

@kimberlyhirsh Both of those lists are phenomenal examples of what the internet needs less and more of, respectively. Thank you for putting this into concise words. I shudder to think of how much nonsense you had to sift through to come to this conclusion.

A few months ago, I noticed that my own writing had turned into a garbled mess of the things you’re not interested. I think that’s why I started losing passion for it. Now I’m seeking more of what you are interested in and it’s been delightful. I agree—more stories and love!

@patrickrhone I think there are many cases where your assertion is true. This is genuinely more a statement of what bores me vs what interests me than anything else.

@AlanGMarz I think it's because blogging used to be predominantly a personal practice and now it's predominantly a business tool. The former aren't bad, they're just irrelevant to what I'm trying to do.

@dandycat I think it's wise for anyone writing on the web to be instrumental about their tools and approaches. Those things can be useful if your goal is to attract attention to a business. I'm focused on personal expression and find them less useful for that.
