@pratik @JohnPhilpin I’ve been think about that since you mentioned it yesterday. That’s the kind of information that throws gasoline on the fire of conspiracy theories. That the vast majority of states where the virus is growing are red states baffles me. I do tend to lean toward the conservative side of politics—though I’m a supporter of neither our Governor nor the President—and way too many folks on my side of the aisle dismiss the virus as “fake news.” There are those who truly believe there really is no virus, or that China has waged chemical warfare, or that it’s all a liberal ploy. I had to run several errands this morning to help my mother. I could count the total number of people wearing masks on two hands, and that includes me.

@gpittman @JohnPhilpin tbh, it’s not surprising or insidious. The dense urban area where the outbreak first hit tend to be Democratic-leaning. Now the virus is getting out to the less dense areas. This was inevitable but the haste in opening up has exacerbated the situation.

@pratik Our state superintendent of education has implored people to wear max and take precautions. “If you want your children to go back to school in the fall, you’ll wear a mask.”

But our numbers broke records again today, beating out yesterday’s numbers by over 100 and percent positive was slightly higher, too.

@JohnPhilpin I’m in South Carolina. Yes, there are people who believe all of those things here.

@JohnPhilpin My only response to this, if I was a media reporter in the White House, would be, if what you say is true, stop all testing in the White House for a month. Don’t wear a mask and keep meeting people. We’ll see after that.
