Dear NZ

I know Rod is a local hero - but when I read.

”… allowing rich foreigners to buy sections in areas like Hawke’s Bay and Queenstown …

…” an initial 1000 sections could be offered up on the proviso they spend $5 to $10 million on construction …

Tread VERY carefully.

@JohnPhilpin Ugh! And as for US billionaires installing bunkers here … I reckon we should allow that only if they're stripped of their billions - they should be able to 'make do’ with say $100 million and feed the rest of their $$$ into our welfare and support systems.

@Miraz the whole Ted talk is worth a watch - but follow this link and click on the green tag ‘Alaska or New Zealand’.

@Miraz BTW - Rushkoff often talks (badly) about Peter Thiel without naming him.

This makes for an interesting read that goes back NINE YEARS …

Surprise surprise …

”In October 2010, he (Thiel) invested $3 million in online accounting firm Xero, which is based (and publicly traded) in New Zealand.

… Xero's CEO is of course Rod Drury

@JohnPhilpin Interesting. Thanks. That theme of just watching the future roll in while proclaiming powerlessness…

@JohnPhilpin Oh dear. I used Xero for years. Only cancelled last year.

@Miraz @johnphilpin Spotted the mention of Xero here, as I use it for our business. Followed the thread back through and see Thiel's name and I'm reminded of his other little project Palantir and wonder that he doesn't just go the whole hog and change his name to Sauron.

@strandlines @miraz

On my people first site a couple of months ago I decided to extend my ‘glossary’ to include people who in some ways are famous but for jo’ public fly below the radar and who’s behavior is most certainly NOT People First.

Peter Thiel is my First and so far only entry .. it is far from complete but I got fed up in other places with explaining what is wrong with him.

It’s curious that he argues himself as a libertarian and stands for freedom of the individual ... he is absolutely the opposite.

@JohnPhilpin arguably the only individual for whose freedom he stands is himself. Am gutted to see that he has his finger in Xero's pie. My subscription to it may be a drop in the ocean in the grand scheme of things but I hate to be a contributor to the interests of someone like Thiel.

@JohnPhilpin @strandlines I couldn’t bear to read it all but I'm gobsmacked that a response to watching the world fall apart is to build a bunker and not a solution.
