Recurring articles, analysis and opinion - country by country - are stating that deaths are likely higher than being reported.

Because.

Reported deaths are generally hospital only. Deaths elsewhere or without tests, not part of official count.

Who could have known that?

@JohnPhilpin This one is complicated. I strongly suspect COVID-19 was in the United States LONG before reported. By strongly, I mean... I’m pretty sure I had it when I was hospitalized. But, no test was available at the time.

@paulcraig901 well in that case - you might be interested in research I read about this morning that suggests that one reason for CA low figures is a herd immunity cos it arrived there early in the fall last year.

since I read it - lost where it was - so searched and found a reference on daily kos = but
