@JohnPhilpin Once upon a time, I worked at a Border's Book Store that had the attached coffee shop. I spent a lot of time making iced drinks for the kids where the shot of espresso was largely incidental. I'm at least partially shocked you had that experince, though, as the latté is the basis for most of the drinks that are flavored with sugar syrop and topped with whipped cream.

@hjalm to me it is not so much the kids as the owner / management ... who have a sign above the espresso machine promoting that they have Latte's available ... Fully get I am an old fart .. and kids don't understand me ... but this is not some hip coffee place, where all the cool kids hang out ... It is an old classic Italian coffee place that old farts hang out in ... Where is the staff training? ... See that sign - that's what we sell ... this is how the drinks are pronounced and what is in them .... and again ... all good ... maybe they couldn't understand my English?
