🔗 Robert Birming: How to kill a blog

What can you do to prolong [your blog’s] life?

It’s very simple. Don’t go niche.

Blog about whatever you feel like. Some posts get more attention than others. It’s not important.

Love it! And so true.

@lmika Depends what b how you define niche .. I am 1 person in a sea of 8.5 billions … and counting. That’s pretty niche. If I find it interesting, useful, funny … and I have the time .. I will post.

The work of Steven Wilson, a quote from Russell, a movie review an essay on the role of structured thought in the world of AI to some might seem broad .. to me it is all connected.

@JohnPhilpin Ah, touché. I suppose as long as you can sustain writing about a particular topic, regardless of how niche it is (depending on how you define niche), then it’ll work out.

@lmika a single person is niche .. Simon Williso on posting about kiwi parrots .. far and wide or niche?

@JohnPhilpin Yeah, maybe niche is not the correct word here. I took the point to mean applying self-imposed restrictions on what you choose to a single topic. Simon Willison posting about Kakapos is a good example, considering that he also covers AI, Python, quotes, tools, etc. If one were to categorise the whole as a single topic, then yes, I would agree that that is niche.
