I’m looking forward to getting my Bose A20 aviation headset next week. It was pricey but I was able to get a discount through work. A good headset is critical to me at work, so the price is worth it.

@jmreekes shouldn’t your employer be buying you the equipment you need ?

@JohnPhilpin Technically, they do but not what you’re thinking. They do provide us headsets as part of the equipment on the airplane. The headsets on the planes are a basic, on-ear headset with no ANR, they’re uncomfortable, and worst of all, they are shared headsets.

@JohnPhilpin I have only flown with 1 or 2 pilots at my company who use the ship’s headset, everybody else has their own. It’s worth the coin out of my pocket to know where my headset has been, and most importantly it’s comfortable and just as importantly, protects my hearing.

@jmreekes all good and makes lots of sense ... but I would have thought that they should at least be providing you your own headsets .. much as they provide uniform ...or have I got that wrong aswell? ... definitely understand wanting something that works for you - regardless of what they provide. In office world it fits into the BYOD thinking.

@jmreekes a good headset + ear protection! It’s loud, even on the flight deck and you cant get that lost hearing back.
