You should rewatch The Prisoner. One great theme in it is about individual identity. The warders of the Village are trying to break down Number 6 and get him to accept he is Number 6 not his real self.

People ask me where I am from and since I have lived in California longer than anywhere - I usually start there … which if they are listening generally opens up a conversation.

Curiously I don’t find the ‘born in Germany’ bit as difficult as the ‘I am English’ bit :-)
