I’d like to start opinion blogging about politics and international current affairs. The problem is I’d like to keep it out of the social timeline at Micro.blog and I don’t want to start a new seperate MB blog. So I need to decide on a platform.

@bradenslen Have Andy set you up with a server for Dave Winer's 1999 and/or MyWord Editor. Very fair pricing, in my opinion. You can use your own domain name, if you have one you want to use. You could even try out MyWord Editor first, as a guest on my server if you wanted to. You would need a Twitter account, as that is the credential used for logging in to the software. My MWE blog can be read at. At the bottom of the article, click on the orange RSS symbol to get the RSS feed. There is a hamburger in the top left corner to jump between articles. There are only two of them so far. If you wanted to try the software, Andy would probably point you to another URL for the editor.

Gotta run to the DMV. I can help you later, if you need it.

@Ron Thanks. I already have a hosting account (c-panel) that lets me host multiple domains and sub-domains. Since it's already paid for, I'm going to use that. Just got to choose a script.

@bradenslen why do you need a script? Put up Wp on a subdomain and don’t connect it to social?

@JohnPhilpin Those were my thoughts, except I might try B2evolution instead of WP. One thing nice about B2evo is you can host multiple blogs on one install, which is also dangerous given my historical propensity for blog proliferation.

@bradenslen That is very considerate of you. When you have it all set up, please drop another note here. I would love to follow your thoughts there.

@bradenslen You could do it on your M.b-hosted blog by removing your blog’s main feed from your M.b Account settings and then only syndicating a certain category feed to M.b, but you’d have to set the appropriate category on every post you did want to come to the Timeline—which I suspect is probably ultimately more work than setting up a separate blog :-P

@bix Haha! I think the only solution for that one is a separate blog :-)

@smokey Too much work. Plus I'm having problems posting long form posts on MB. It adds a new friction to posting. It's a problem that has cropped up in the last couple of months, and for what I want to do it would mostly be long form posts.

@bix I know what you mean - and I don’t do it a lot .... and when I do the words are written as if a third person - which I know is very Trumpish - but it worked before him 😎

@JohnPhilpin @smokey This just got complicated fast. SiteGround, my cpanel host is ditching cpanel and with it about 80% of the autoinstall scripts including B2Evo. That was a large part of the point for me having a cpanel hosting account - I could add a forum or a blog site at will.

@JohnPhilpin Plus they are charging a fee of $50 just to install bigger stuff like Tikiwiki. I got a canned response from them on Twitter "we will be adding more ..." "thank you for your suggestion" Well that doesn't help me right now. And frankly, I have lost trust in them.

But now I may have to find another web host.

@bradenslen will look closer - i know when i was looking at running servers for 1999 - i was faced with 250 a year versus alternates that cost just 2 to 3 bucks a month … but I moved away from 1999 anyway - but I often think it would be good to have space there that aren't 'the usual stuff they offer’ … but thenm i don’t - too much other stiff going on. Do keep me appraised.
