Seriously?

Kafka - who should know better - and Vox - FFS (I paraphrase the sentiment of a gushing podcast)

The Facebook Glasses are so good that they are taking Apple head on - for less money.

Later on we learn that these glasses are

  • unlikely to see the light of day,
  • possibly in 3 to 10 (TEN - not a typo) years before a version is likely to be released,
  • estimated cost per pair is $10,000 - to MANUFACTURE.

Thats three times the price that apple are selling at - and of course we all know that Apple will never release a version two of their product - I mean they are done. Aren’t they?

@JohnPhilpin And have you seen Zuckerberg's prototype? Apple doesn't even let people see their version of this type of thing!

You know, I think certain people are so excited about the notion that "Apple Are Bad" they will go out of their way to throw out basic reason.

@JohnPhilpin Thanks but I'm not going to watch it. As soon as any company has a legitimate product, and it's something that is worth depending on then maybe I'll be interested.

This Meta vs Apple dynamic is as if I got some AI slop machine to hack up some pictures of "an improved Micro.blog", then posted the pictures, and people used it as a way to criticise Manton and Vincent... pure clown behaviour.

I think it's also telling that Apple were just casually turning their wireless headphones into hearing aids, and yet the same hype train was oddly silent. I suppose actually improving lives isn't as fun as goofy prototypes.

@SimonWoods oh i didn’t watch it - well - not all - you can just get a quick glimpse of dorks being dorks. For all their bluster - no one ever seriously questions the design choices.

But...but that's not as much "fun" as live demos. @JohnPhilpin

@JohnPhilpin @pratik @SimonWoods Bah! Geeks and tech reviewers tend to be youngish. Hearing loss isn't even on their radar - yet. Wait till they get old and they will understand, and talk, about hearing aids. (An important topic, hearing loss, but not fun.)

My worry with any hearing aids or vision correction by Apple and/or Meta is getting trapped in their insidious, diabolical walled gardens.
