@JohnPhilpin is wondering if there are any android users out there that have emoji problems.

that is for example - scrolling down the MB time line - and instead of seeing these happy globally standard emojis that we all love (and hate) … I instead see little empty boxes - as if it is some kind of image fail.

Is it possible that there is a setting somewhere that blocks them … I am at a loss since I live in the magic kingdom of steve jobs.

Asking for a friend.

@JohnPhilpin Has to do with the set of new emojis that Apple's platforms have adopted, but the specific models of Android haven't yet.

@JohnPhilpin Linux emojis are all black and white line drawings.

@JohnPhilpin Depends on the phone and the app. Unfortunately there are very few simple answers to problems on Android, thanks to the "freedom" of fragmentation.

@JohnPhilpin To follow on to what @amit and @simonwoods said, you won’t see them on older Mac/iOS versions, either.

Once the emojis are standardized and the standard is released, platform vendors usually only incorporate them into upcoming system software releases. Apple seems pretty good about getting them out quickly in iOS point releases (12.something introduced 🧶 ball of yarn and friends from Emoji 11), but not every vendor is that good; Microsoft tends to lag, and Android fragmentation…just makes it a never-ending nightmare, I believe ;-) // @bradenslen
