This place officially socks (OTD in 2008)
@rscottjones are there any towns in America that are only ‘XYZ Capitals of America’? #AskingForAFriend
@JohnPhilpin @odd I guess Fort Payne would have to sock a little bit less to get that title 😆
@JohnPhilpin To your point though, yes, there are examples of that, especially when it comes to more easily measured things, like the height of waterfalls or mountains and such. But there's also a long standing tradition of calling tourist traps "The World's Largest (blank)," whether it is or not.
@rscottjones yes .. fully aware .. I used to drive through and around the ‘Garlic Capital of the World’ many years ago.
Having lived ‘here’ a long time .. it’s observations like this that constantly rattle in my head and why I enjoy things like 🔗 📼 Cleese and Hodgman
@JohnPhilpin That was pretty funny, thanks for sharing!
I think a lot of this had a somewhat rational historical basis. I find the "football" critique annoying, as it was the English who came up with the word to denote ANY game played on foot (usually by peasants) as opposed to horseback by elites.
