🎛️ Embrace The Future

The excerpt is not the main thrust of the podcast, but neatly summarizes the problem of rejecting, rather than embracing, what is clearly something that is part of the future.

@Munish Well that seems a very innocuous question, doesn’t it? Sadly - not a quick answer, but I will get to it. Is there anything specific you are wondering about?

@JohnPhilpin haha. No hidden agenda. I started using it last year and then found it buggy. I was wondering how you were finding it. I keep switching between sniped, Pocket Casts and Podcasts App, Sounds and another one called Hark for different features. It’s all becoming very messy in the podcast subscription space.

@Munish purely using it for snippets … think Readwise for Podcasts.

@Munish what are you trying to with all of those? Funny how most are free .. wonder what their plan is?

@JohnPhilpin well Podcasts works well with the Apple Watch, Pocket Casts is good for enhancing audio etc. I used to subscribe. Not fully checked out Hark. It does seem to have a good recommendations algorithm. The main reason for downloading. BBC seems to be releasing its own podcasts on its own app before others. Surprised the lag time between their own app and others.

@Munish I think the BEEB is well known for its desire to control … part of which comes down to the license situation. Being abroad I like to get BBC stuff, but it is incredibly limited. I seriously don’t get why they don’t get rid of the license fee so they can really get out and promote their content abroad.

Clearly I know nothing … because they haven’t done that.

@JohnPhilpin part government owned, originally fully backed by license fee and now it makes money abroad. I was wondering who the private money making element is not offsetting the the license fee.

@Munish yes it makes money abroad … has for a while, not seen numbers recently ..but for a long whole internatonal income was a tiny contribution …Clealry the gov hold a big control otherwise why do they get to appoint the DG?

@Munish I like its snipping capability and the intelligent finding of same ... it's not intuitive ... support is good.

Definitely not switching to it to play regular podcasts - like a normal podcast player - for that I am sticking with Overcast.
