@JohnPhilpin @mandaris is maybe talking about the Readwise part(?)

@odd Oh thankyou - I see.

If that is right @mandaris - then you need a handy dandy service called Readwise. One of my favorite apps - and most definitely the best 'Read Later' app I have ever used. There are a number of people in here using the app - and I have referenced it more than a few times in the past 18 months or so - though to be fair in the early days (Sept 24th 2021) - I was definitely skeptical!

A number of extracted quotes as an example.

@JohnPhilpin Are you behind on The Daily Stoic? I started reading it on the day four days ago, and are going to read the entry for February 10 soon. I mark each day, (with a pen, in the book), a check for read, and a star for “meditate on” / revisit later.

@odd still the 9th here … but you are right … it can appear .. well … ‘odd’ 🥳… particularly leaving NZ and back to CA , and amplified by crossing the international dateline!

@JohnPhilpin yes, I’m always a little curious about how people put things into their respective timelines.

@mandaris if that is useful to you, happy to oblige. This is how I do it for this particular daily post. Each morning ( mostly ) ….

1) I read the relevant page of The Daily Stoic and absorb.

2) At that time I take a picture of the page, typically with my iPad.

3) In Readwise I add that picture via ‘highlights’ and their app allows me to highlight text from that page to create one of their ‘quote cards’, which also gets saved to my iPad. This might not happen immediately, because sometimes I need to think more about what my takeaway is.

4) I upload the two images to microblog and copy the image link to the clipboard.

5) In Drafts, I have a ready to go template with three variables. I duplicate the template and then overwrite the three variables with todays new information, namely the page number, the png link for the ‘quote card’ and the jpg link for the page image.

6) I post to microblog with a Drafts action.

It’s a little long, but in fairness it’s getting easier with muscle memory … but even then, sometimes I might not be able to do it all at that moment, depending on life, calendars et al, so though I always do 1 and 2 … if ‘no time’ for 3 to 6, I do drop a holding post into the blog … with words like ‘Today’s Stoic’ … and at a future time come back to it and update the post …this ensures that every day there is one post that maps to the books flow. ( I recently with travels, you might have noticed that happening a lot .. I actually had a backlog of 4 days, because I was trying to make sure that as I crossed the international date line, I didn’t lose the daily flow.)

Also, stages 3 to 6 might not complete until later in the day, as will happen this morning for example.

The only exception to this is the 1st and 2nd of January .. because I didn’t have this idea until the 2nd, so posted both entries on the second.

@JohnPhilpin sorry about the delay in follow up, but how are you pushing your images to micro.blog? I currently only up load when I make a new post.

@mandaris on the web site there is a tab called 'uploads' - and you can push up whatever you want at that point. Right click on the image to grab the link. Use that link in Markdown to display the image - even in replies - like this.
