One of my favourite things about Micro.blog is the blog part. I know lots of people have become strongly attached to timelines and the mechanisms therein; I hope the platform is never compromised by what is, for the most part, addiction-driven behaviour and expectations.

@SimonWoods not just the blog part..but the simplicity of the blog part...

@JohnPhilpin I like the degree to which the timeline is influenced by blog-centric thinking. It feels like good ideas have been battle-tested in the browser, so to speak, and then are in better shape to be adapted for the native apps.

@SimonWoods well.. I felt it... Tried it and nah... Used the prompt

good ideas that have been battle-tested in the browser

And then

good ideas that have been battle-tested in the browser in a photographic style using a primary palette

And not even good enough to share 🥹

@SimonWoods I agree with this. I am working hard on thinking about the BLOG first and the timeline 2nd. I admit that when I deleted my twitter account - I found myself checking MB timelime many more times per day.

@SimonWoods I was thinking about this, and the fact that micro.blog is a full blog host is why I'm willing to pay for it. I don't pay for a timeline. I do pay for hosting.

@KimberlyHirsh YES … it’s not overly different to what is emerging on substack with their new comment chat features … use as you will but you pay for the main product ,,, in their case the newsletter - albeit that the model of payment is different

@JohnPhilpin Yeah - I do pay for newsletters and I do pay creators through Patreon. None of these use me as a product to sell ads or benefit directly from my creations.
