Anyone else listening to Maddow’s ‘Ultra’?
@JohnPhilpin Tonight's the night for "Ultra". The teasers on Monday night's programming were compelling.
@JohnPhilpin Regarding the Spark app — after setting it to the "Classic" view, it's no longer a terrible experience. In my very limited testing it appears to be unchanged from the (ahem) good old days before this update. I'll stay with it for a while longer.
I just finished Episode 3 of Ultra. I keep checking the web for 'confirmation' and other reports on the people, places and events she references in the show .. it's all there in plain sight ...
My only question is why this history hasn't already been more broadly told.
@rogerscrafford weird... alert for this reply just triggered... Thank you.., I will try that.
@JohnPhilpin Yes, weird.
When you long ago typed that you were eager to read my thoughts on Ultra, you unknowngly set me the challenge of getting my thoughts in order. And what should have been a simple response has turned into an evolving essay on the series. Pascal's line, “I would have written a shorter letter, but I did not have the time,” is hitting home.
I'm having trouble separating the podcast's form — so far it's a historical suspense narrative — from its content — facts that actually have been know but which apparently have not been connected before. But it's clear to me where that narrative is leading.
Re Ultra - yes form ~v~ content ... good thought.
BUT - I think it has all been connected before - and then forgotten.
Are you going to publish the essay?
@JohnPhilpin Forgotten for two reasons, I think. In some cases the gatekeepers -- publishers, etc. -- were sympathetic to the fascist cause, and in other cases the subject was simply outside what some call the Overton Window -- simply not talked about, for whatever reason.
As to 'publishing' ... not complete. Also, I'm an episode behind on "Ultra".
@rogerscrafford when you get there …. I will guarantee you one reader 😂
