Apple plans offering more advertising to users via apps.

Dalyrymple has been on about ads in music for a while. This suggests that it is going to get worse.

I’m with Jim. I am paying for these services with cold hard cash.

If ads appear I will need to reconsider my options.

@JohnPhilpin This is utterly fucking ridiculous. I hope they get a huge pushback about this.

@JohnPhilpin Absolutely. The deal is free = ads, pay = no ads. Been like this for ever. Too many middlemen lose out when you switch to micropayments so they are working hard to blur distinctions.

More on this … but not really more information?

Apple ad exec wants to more than double ad revenue with new ads across iOS.

@JohnPhilpin The timeline in today's Stratechery Daily Update, about Apple's talk with Facebook, how they chased down developers to put in IAP, and the rollout of ATT, was illuminating. There may be innocent explanations for all of this, but to me it really does look like they are trying to squeeze as much service revenue as they can using whatever means available to them. It really does seem to be a corruptible influence, and I can't see anything good coming from this.

@JohnPhilpin Google's stranglehold on ad platforms is and has been breaking up. This could accelerate if anti-trust regulators start breaking up Google ad empire. So now is the time to start building up alternatives to catch all that ad revenue. Apple sees this and wants in on the money.

The probem is that Apple is introducing an ad infested flow into their own walled garden.
