Where is the ‘webp’ format suddenly coming from - and if it is THAT standard - why don’t all apps recognize it?

@JohnPhilpin Webp is in development by Google since 2010/2011 I believe. Chrome(ium) based browsers and Firefox support Webp support it for quite some time. Other browsers are now adding support (most notably Safari starting iOS14).

@roelwillems well - that shows how up to date I am! Thankyou.

The confusing thing is copying an image from a browser - seems to save it in that form - and then SOME image viewers don’t seem to recognize it as an image … very frustrating.

@JohnPhilpin it is super frustrating indeed. The technology is quite some years old but adoption started more recently. Browsers are mostly ok but desktop app support still is being mediocre at best.
