Finally finished “Against the Machine” by Paul Kingsnorth. Overall, I think he’s right. But, wow, he goes full “crazy right-wing uncle” in a few spots. Multiple COVID rants. Nothing about the tech-supported rise of right-wing fascism.
@joshuapsteele Agreed. I was probably more sympathetic to the COVID rants than many, but his selectivity about the techno-state was creepy.
@joshuapsteele I felt that as well. I really resonated with Kingsnorth’s writing in this book but felt that there were gaps and such broad brushstrokes at times that it bothered me. Still, I think it’s a lover’s quarrel I have with his writing here.
