Wait, have people (encountered 3 today) lately stopped hosting on Micro.blog and using other blogging platforms or Mastodon to use the timeline? I thought most were not pleased with the community part but were fine with the hosting part š¤
@pratik Interesting. Because I have often seen the opposite, including in myself. In the worst cases, itās been purely the community here that had made me stay.

@pratik Sure I see anger here, but none of the nastiness so prevalent elsewhere, and nothing that can't be dealt with by unfollowing. Something I've wondered about: I follow about 50 people and have never followed more than 100. I come across people who follow far more, and I wonder if something makes them feel they need to keep reading things that make them unhappy.
As things stand, M.B. feels to me like a kind, thoughtful environment full of people of whom I've become genuinely fond. I don't use any other social media, and if I got fed up with M.B. would probably quit social media altogether.
@KyleEssary @JohnBrady You're right, perhaps not offended or angry but more like disappointed with the tone of those who may be anything other than saccharine (e.g., Discover tab). Perhaps I'm talking about people who can't seem to wrap their heads around discomfort or guilt.
I have been on Micro.blog for a while now and yet follow "only" 275 people but more than half of them are inactive now. But yeah, people can always curate their experience, and there's no algorithm yet to show them their unrevealed preferences.
@DaveyCraney Yup. Same here. I have seen some disappear and then reappear from other hosting options. It's fine for us readers but wondering why coz Micro.blog makes its money from hosting and not from the community. From my perception, I thought people liked the hosting here and if there was an option to NOT post on the Micro.blog timeline but only cross-post to other networks, they would. Maybe I'm mistaken.
@pratik I know MB has its problems but for me the price is right and I like the interactions I get here, but the hosting and āmy siteā is primarily why Iām here.

Bingo. I'd like to see this. There are some posts or perhaps even having a second MB blog where I could NOT cross-post to MB but could cross-post to other networks.
@bradenslen That would entail disentangling the hosting part of Micro.blog from the Community part of Micro.blog which often seem distinct but probably are more intertwined technically that my limited knowledge can envision. But yeah, it would let the more opinionated among us to use the plumbing but spare the otherwise chill vibe of the community (Iām not saying I will do this).
