One of the reasons why 24-hour time is better than the am/pm shenanigans the English-speaking world insists on is that it would avoid this type of embarrassment: a haiku competition submission form closing at noon when it was clearly meant to close at midnight.

@miljko Even as a native English speaker, I've always thought 24-hour time is just plainly better. I set all my devices to use it. In actual speech I still use 12-hour time though, because no one'd understand me if I started saying things like "16 o'clock" 😆 It'd be more logical, though!

@miljko @jayeless At least once a year, I get tangled up in confusion about whether noon is 12 AM or 12 PM; likewise for midnight. Especially online, if I want to make a noon appointment and, having filled in "12" have to select "AM" or "PM". Argh! I know that AM and PM mean ante- and post-meridian, so noon is Meridian. But if I say 12M, people are just as likely to think I mean midnight. /rant> @jayeless

@JMaxB 12AM and 12PM are both meaningless, or at least always confusing. People should say noon or midnight. 12:00 of course means noon, and midnight is 00:00, but you can't say those with AM or PM.

@devilgate Very true, but there are a lot of online forms that haven't heard the news.

@jayeless I’ve used 24hr time for as long as I can remember, I like it so much better. Once you get used to the numbers when you start, it quickly becomes second nature.

@pimoore @jayeless I lived in Germany for a year back in 1976. I've used 24 hour time personally ever since. When I talk with others though I revert to the 12 hour clock. 24 hour clock makes so much more sense.

@pimoore Same here. 24 hour time simplifies many things.

@Miraz @pimoore I've used 24-hour time and ISO dates for decades (I forget when I started). So much more logical. Though I also usually speak 12-hour time.

@dejus @miraz @alligator This is what I do as well: speak 12hr, and 24 for literally everything else except our clocks at home.
