As a paying subscriber, I feel like I ought to be able to read the New York Times in a browser without being nagged to install their app every single time I click through to an article.

@petebrown It isn’t just the NYT. Reddit does it too, and some other sites as well. I think it must be a standard thing that some developers choose. I am often struck by how one bit of code can aggravate so many people.

@cliffordbeshers Yeah, a ton of sites do it. I generally assume it’s because they can get better data analytics (and therefore better monetization) from the app than from the website.

@petebrown I'm not sure why businesses are so frantic to have people using their apps when the web site works fine. Maybe they can gather and sell more personal information?
