Great Blue Heron nests, Pleasant Valley. The birder on this walk identified seven different nests in this group of trees.

Bare tree-tops with two Great Blue Herons, each on its own nest.

@cliffordbeshers They like to nest in colonies. When we lived along a creek in OH, there was a cluster of almost a dozen nests that the herons returned to year after year.

@JMaxB @cliffordbeshers We are getting great blue herons all the time (even named the place after them) but haven't spotted their nests, yet! Any tips to find them? (some videos)

@toddgrotenhuis No tips except that they like to nest (and roost) near water, don't like busy places, and build high in the trees. Where we used to live they liked sycamores (maybe just because they're tall and grow along streams?). Sadly we no longer live in sycamore territory.

@JMaxB thanks! Lots of sycamores, too, so will check there. As soon as it warms up a bit more I am going to kayak on the creek and may get some more views.
