Finished reading: The Return of the King by J. R. R. Tolkien 📚
@philbowell Did you know that Tolkien didn't like the title (given it by the publisher) because he thought it gave away too much? I remember reading the paperbacks in the 1960s when LOTR wasn't a Thing yet. Is there anyone now who can read the books without already having some idea of how things turn out? Glad I had the chance.
@JMaxB I didn’t know that, but I can see why. I think the first time I read them when I was teenager I didn’t know much about about them, but since the films came out I would imagine most people discover it all there before they even consider reading the books. Sad really.
