@MitchW Hey - instead of posting twice on two different accounts, you can set it up where one redirects to the other. Itās a bit convoluted but you lose no followers and they donāt have to do anything to keep up with your posts. https://mstdn.social/@feditips/107939441820299376
@MitchW
Iāll be sure and read that, tomorrow. But if I donāt feel like it, maybe the next day. I donāt know. š¤
@podfeet Problem is one of my accountsāthis oneāis a micro.blog account, not Mastodon, though Mastodon users can follow the micro.blog account. I also have a Mastodon account for things that micro.blog does not support. Itās a bit clumsy, but I figure the fediverse is still in early days and things will be more convenient in a few months or a year.
@MitchW i have the same set up, with a slight difference. I rarely (if ever) dual post - rather I use my āreal
ā masto account to follow my MB masto - and selectively boost posts I want in both places.
@JohnPhilpin Hmmmm⦠until now, I have resisted doing that, because the @micro.blog masto (technically speaking, itās ActivityPub not Masto, but calling it Masto for this discussion is fine) truncates at 280 characters, rather than the full Masto 500. My workaround is to syndicate from MB to Masto and then edit the syndicated post when needed.
But your solution might be better. And I can still post directly to Masto when Iād rather do that.
For literally the past 15 years, Iāve been publishing a lot of the same content to multiple platforms, and have wished there was a better way to do it than a lot of cutting-and-pasting.
@JohnPhilpin @poddfeet Also, I do a lot of my linkposting and posting memes and vintage photos to a Tumblr account, at atomicrobot.live. I post the same to a Facebook group, but Facebook might as well be invisible to the fediverse.
@MitchW by starting with MB - I find that editing posts to the ālowest common denominatorā is best - and Masto then just works. That said - sure would be nice to have more characters š¤·š¼āāļø
@JohnPhilpin I seem to take as much pleasure from fiddling with my social media and blogging set up as I do from actually using social media and blogging. ļæ¼
@MitchW with you there! Might explain my 8 twitter accounts - that of course now lay dormant!
@MitchW Ah, I see the problem. Iām seeing all of your posts twice - so I guess I have to choose which one is the _real_ Mitch?
@JohnPhilpin I have, or had, one Twitter account for myself. As you say, itās dormant. ļæ¼ or nearly so ā I occasionally send a reply or DM from there. Iāve also had about a dozen branded accounts for companies over the years. ļæ¼
@MitchW now if had the excuse of running twitter accounts for others I wouldnāt feel so bad .. sadly all mine are mine ⦠what was I THINKING!
@MitchW@mitchw.blog @mitchw@mastodon.social Hmmm. I seem to see both accounts saying the same thing one right after another. There must be a union of the two sets at some point. Iāll just keep following both. Who would want to take a chance at missing any of your brilliance, right?
@podfeet NOW YOUāRE SETTING THE BAR TOO HIGH AND I AM GETTING PERFORMANCE ANXIETY!!!!!!!!
Iām aiming for ānot a complete waste of time.ā āBrilliancāe is over-ambitious.
@JohnPhilpin Makes sense to have special accounts for special purposes. Eight is possibly excessive. :)
On my Tumblr, I share everything I post here, plus ephemeral media I find on the Internetāvintage ads and photos, memes, funny tweets, etc. I used to use Twitter the same way. Lately I think the people who are interested in my perspective might not be interested in all taht other stuff. Also, as a platform, micro.blog is not suited for sharing a lot of ephemera, whereas Tumblr is.
@MitchW I do miss your ephemeral media here. Admittedly, it could get overwhelming if you were prolific on a particular day but always enjoyed it. I assume you donāt monitor responses to those posts coz I had replied to a few of them.
@pratik I was off micro.blog for a while, and only checking replies very sporadically. Currently doing the ephemera on atomicrobot.live and www.facebook.com/groups/at⦠Thinking about maybe bringing them back here in some fashion. Hopefully, Tumblr will get ActivityPub support sooner rather than laterāI know itās in the pipeline.
And Iām glad you enjoyed the posts!
