Someone convince me that this is a really dumb eBike to buy for commuting.

@yorrike Well, it does come with a 750w motor! 😎

@Stevsmit Yeah, well… that’d technically be illegal for me to ride on the road/cycle path in NZ. Even the 350 W model is slightly illegal as there’s an arbitrary 300 W limit on what’s classed as a bicycle.

@yorrike uh oh. Too bad about that pesky law. The Pedego Trailtracker i was given to ride in Auckland (lime green rims in my previous post) has a 500w motor. Lots of power for the hills in the city and I’m 100kg. Of course, it didn’t feel like real bike riding.

@Stevsmit That's a monstrous bike. I rode bikes for most of my life until I hit my mid twenties. Now over a decade later I’m gearing up (heh) to get an eBike to commute with when I move back to Wellington. Wellington is best described as a series of parallel cliffs we call “hills”, and all I want in a bike is to make those “hills" vanish. We're getting very close to the blurred line between an electric bike, and an electric motorcycle.

@yorrike I agree about the thin line. I am 100 kg and could easily just use the throttle to clomb the hills in Auckland. The mass of the bike didn’t matter. I think it had a 500W motor. Even though they are almost motorcycles, you still have the option of pedaling. I fear relying too much on the motor and losing the exercise component but I live at the top of a long climb and that is preventing me from riding much these days. Good luck with your quest.
