Since I gave up my Lightroom subscription I’m looking for an iOS based photo editor with good presets. VSCO is good but it doesn’t interact directly with the photo library. Darkroom lets me edit in place but it’s editing doesn’t seem as impactful. : blog.andrewcanion.com

@canion I am always bouncing back and forth between Darkroomand VSCO, and I have always gotten good results. Although my editing is very minimal these days.

@Gabz Do you pay for VSCO? I don’t see any value in its social network.

@canion I do, I have the yearly subscription. I like the “for this photo” tab, it shows recommendations for that particular photo. Usually I apply that filter and then tweak a little bit. However, I feel like Darkroom does a better job applying the filter and the right amount of tweaks. But VSCO makes me feel a little bit more in control.

@canion @gabz I use Darkroom and Raw Power. The developer is a former Aperture and iPhoto developer and was on the PhotoActive podcast just over a year ago. I recently went back to listen to the episode again. My entire workflow is iOS based, so I'm always on the look for new and exciting editing apps.

@zap omg! I forgot about RAW Power! I think I first owned this on the Mac and as it turns out, it looks like I also own it on iOS.

@Gabz It's good! Has bugs and kinks, but is Darkroom on steroids. The edits on the Mac sync over iCloud to iOS and vice versa!

@canion I love Pixelmator Photo. Does that suit your needs?

@martinfeld I’ve got that one. It has just never stuck. Maybe I should give it another try.

@canion How about Affinity Photo?

@martinfeld Doesn't that need a lot of skill & artistic talent? I want less Photoshop; more Lightroom.

@canion Yeah it’s more fiddly but quite powerful. I have it in addition to Pixelmator Pro but mainly to have it tie into Affinity Publisher, as they share features on the Mac. Pixelmator Pro is nicer for easy and casual use. Not sure of others to recommend... if you decide on something else I’d love to hear about it!

@martinfeld Thanks mate. Knowing me, I’ll probably end up rotating through all of them and never settling on any one. Kind of how I deal with notetaking apps…

@pratik I assumed because it was a Google product I’d have to share my living history with the app.

@canion which is unfortunate coz it was/is a great app before Google bought it.

@martinfeld So far, Pixelmator Photo is working best. In-place editing, reasonable filters backed by deeper editing. Plus it has the Machine Learning editing stuff.

@canion Great to hear! 😀 Pixelmator Pro on the Mac also has a ‘Super Resolution’ feature now that is essentially like the ‘Zoom... enhance’ thing from Blade Runner. I’ve seen a GIF demo but am yet to use it.
